The Bismarck - Sunk or Scuttled?

Postby Mortimer » 1 year 10 months ago (Sat Jun 27, 2015 7:40 am)

It has always been the claim of the British navy that they were responsible for the sinking of the German battleship Bismarck in May 1941. However, deep sea explorers including the man who discovered the wreck of the Titanic (Robert Ballard) have produced evidence to support the counterclaim that the Bismarck was scuttled - http://codoh.com/library/document/1464/

Yes, I believe that it sunk because the crew scuttled it.

Have you seen the movie "Sink the Bismark"? There was one scene which was pretty comical - it had the Captain of the Bismark telling his officers "Vee are Nazis!"

Scuttled, most definitely. Physical evidence is physical evidence.

The Brits are not unbiased observers.

More WWII propaganda bites the dust.

If it can't happen as alleged, then it didn't.

I haven't seen this movie and I don't generally watch war films for that very reason - they are too one eyed.
Even the Wikipedia article on this film mentions what you are describing.

Scroll down to Portrayal of Gunther Lutjens.

I highly recommend James Cameron's Expedition Bismarck. It is a very expensive documentary that respectfully and convincingly makes the case that she was scuttled.

This is the documentary that you are talking about. It has the survivors of the Bismarck as well as British sailors who were involved in the battle giving their opinions. The narration is by actor Lance Henriksen -
