Tonite's episode of 60 Minutes on CBS News should be used by the defense team for John Demjanjuk.
Demjanjuk is the Ukrainian who is still being victimized for his supposed role in mass exterminations with diesel exhaust. At his trial in Israel, it was the "eyewitness testimony" of four Israeli "survivors" of Treblinka which, according to the 3-judge court's verdict, persuaded the judges that Demjanjuk really was the man responsible for the mass murder of hundreds of thousands of Jews--and that he should hang. Although the case connecting Demjanjuk to Treblinka has been dropped, the US Justice Department is still hounding him for supposed involvement at Sobibor with diesel exhaust.

The program is a bit lengthy but it is well worth watching in its entirety. Among the experts who are interviewed are psychologist Elizabeth Loftus from UCLA who is jewish and as vile as they come. She had refused to testify on behalf of Demjanjuk because she might have been helping a Nazi. She could have shown just how faulty "eyewitness testimony" is even under the best of circumstances--but she was obviously more than willing to testify for tonite's 60 Minutes. The rape victim in the current 60 Minutes story saw her rapist for about half-an-hour during which time she consciously studied her rapist so that she would be sure to identify later on--and yet, she was completely wrong about her subsequent identifications as later DNA evidence proved.
"Eyewitness testimony" was and still is a major feature of holocaust mythology and was used heavily during the postwar war crimes trials in Germany. Since there was no real evidence such as autopsies, or ducuments for mass gassings, nor even valid theories as to how the gas chambers even operated--"eyewitness testimony" was decisive. Now we know, thanks to 60 Minutes, just how bad it can be.
