Re: Operation Barbarossa Was A Preventive Attack

Something interesting I've noted: Werner Maser quotes from Hitler's alleged 1945 table talk, the authenticity of which has been seriously disputed: Hitler mused to Martin Bormann on February 26, 1945, eight weeks before his suicide: "The behavior of the Soviets in the summer of 1940 ... did not...

Re: Bombings and War Crimes Questions

I see, is there any way to get your hands on the white book that is needed? I wonder how David Irving got his hands on it. I have found the white book, and the relevant document. First of all, regarding the leaflets dropped, this is further confirmed: Although the war was practically decided - espe...

Re: Did Göring supply the Reds with weapons during the Spanish civil war ?

According to this thread Göring supplied the Republicans with weapons, at the same time his airmen were fighting in Spain. Plus this makes Göring seem like he does not in the least care about his ideology and that Germany's fight against bolshevism is just hypocrisy. I don't think so. Beevor doesn'...

Re: National Socialism explained?

It obviously did. German Nationalism was a movement emerging during the 19th century. The Labour movement came into being during the later stages of that era. And well, Volksgemeinschaft was also advocated by not strictly NS-figures, like Alice Salomon: https://archive.org/details/AliceSalomonDieDe...

Re: National Socialism explained?

It’s a legitimate point that nobody knows anything about the man’s academic background, and he just appeared on the scene. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt in good faith that Dalton’s German tomes are the original text, but I can’t really take anybody’s word on this 100% unless we have access ...

Re: National Socialism explained?

HMS, just out of curiosity, what makes you believe that Mein Kampf Stalag isn't an accurate translation? I can't imagine that the translation coming straight from the National Socialists themselves wouldn't be as accurate as possible. Unfortunately that's a preconception many people have and they'r...

Re: National Socialism explained?

Of course a lot of it is in contemporary context. But there are several key tenets that are more rigid . . . one of this was exclusive to National Socialism National Socialism isn't an ideology that borrows tenants or principles from other ideologies. It's a holistic worldview which is predicated o...

Re: National Socialism explained?

There are obvious sources like Mein Kampf which you definitely should read, but there's nothing academic for the most part that's any good. This is because for a long time, and still to this day, modern studies don't take National Socialism seriously, they're much more temporal in their evaluations ...

Re: NSDAP 'Propaganda': Meant to Deceive?

It depends on what you're specifically talking about. An event, claim etc. Propaganda can be anything, it's simply a means to propagate an idea, notion, fact, or lie. It can be of any nature and about anything, it doesn't even have to be ideological. Whatever it may be, people might find whatever &q...

Re: Count Ciano's diary entries in August 1939

Do the work. Show this to be the case instead of just assuming. Nobody is assuming anything, that would be a ridiculous thing to do, and assumes the absence of any evidence. The OSS files as Irving cites at the Mudd Library at Princeton have the files on the OSS fakery. What Ribbentrop and Dollmann...

Re: German militairy expansion

Thank you, yes I do speak German quite well and learning it even better as a side effect wouldn't bother me at all. So yes I am listening;) I have now also ordered some AJP Taylor, Burton H klein, Lydell B Hart But yes German sources seems to make more sense. All these books are great, and should b...

Do you know German? If you do, then I can recommend dozens of books.

Most of the best works available for evaluating this period aren't available in English or any other language.

Re: Count Ciano's diary entries in August 1939

Ciano's diaries are indeed a forgery. There are too obvious anachronisms in Count Galeazzo Ciano’s extensively quoted ‘diaries’: for example Marshal Rodolfo Graziani’s ‘complaints about Rommel’ on December 12, 1940 – two full months before Rommel was appointed to Italy’s North Africa theatre! In fac...

Re: Hitler's Obersalzberg Speech // DOCUMENTS 1014-PS, 798-PS and Raeder 27

So upon quick review it's pretty obvious the machine translation is more accurate, at least for this section. Yes, I am now inclined to think you're right about that. I've checked with a few friends of mine and it does seem to be mis-translated. Nonetheless, the speech isn't important, nor is it in...
