Re: Mass Graves claimed to be found at Treblinka

This photo is also used with captions such as: "women [...] Babi Yar" or "women [...] Birkenau". So is it Treblinka, Babi Yar or Birkenau? Good comment, Toshiro. The best in a long string. Not to be too critical :D but some of these threads become so long and wordy with posts th...

Re: Is this the end of Elie Wiesel?

Kladderadatsch, This is just too good. Thank you so much. Yes, I used the 2006 translation, but I can't remember why. Maybe to be on the safe side, in case it was brought up that it was the correct one? I confess I didn't have the info in mind about when the number A-7713 was given out at Auschwitz....

"Document of Horror" online at Die Welt

This "document" is not an original, nor has it just been discovered. But Die Welt has put photographs of it online; this is the translated page and you can click the arrows to see all fifteen pages. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.welt.de/kultur/artic...

Re: Is this the end of Elie Wiesel?

Carolyn Yeager said: It seems to me that what certain forum members are engaging in is exactly this -- wanting to prevent doubt and criticism of a certain established view of Elie Wiesel that they are so comfortable with, and have based some of their writings and public statements on. There has bee...

Re: Is this the end of Elie Wiesel?

Two texts must be read in order to define the personnage Wiesel. Both refer to the book "Night" and its genuine Yiddish version A Prominent False Witness: Elie Wiesel By Robert Faurisson http://www.ihr.org/leaflets/wiesel.shtml Elie Wiesel and the Scandal of Jewish Rage by Naomi Seidman h...

Re: Is this the end of Elie Wiesel?

Is there anything in Wiesel's other writings about Hilda also being named Deborah? Can you get to "Hilda" from "Deborah" as a diminutive or nickname? What about Bea? I don't know. But it does seem very odd, no doubt about it. Answering my own question: Hil debra nd. That's gener...

Re: Is this the end of Elie Wiesel?

Carolyn, just to answer your question about Hilda, yes there is mention of a certain older sister being of a ripe age for matchmaking, just down the page where you said it would be. I think you'll find it interesting: Dos iz geven 1 Corrected.GIF Deborah.GIF Is there anything in Wiesel's other writ...

Re: Is this the end of Elie Wiesel?

Carolyn, thanks for your note. I'm not ready to commit to anything just yet; I'm going to have think about it. It's a huge amount of work you're talking about, and as I said, I'm not sure that there really will be that much of a payoff in terms of useful material. And arguments like the one from Se...

Re: Is this the end of Elie Wiesel?

There is no shortage of Yiddish-English translation services, so, for crying out loud, why not get a few price quotes and have the thing translated. Enough of this endless speculation about something that can be discovered by a serious person with $500.00 in a week. If $500.00 won't do it, take up ...

Re: Is this the end of Elie Wiesel?

Looking for sections to translate will not do it - we have to have the whole book. I have been making some inquiries and have learned that "someone" is working on a translation. This comes from a Yiddish organization, so it's very likely being done in conjunction with Elie Wiesel and/or h...

Re: Is this the end of Elie Wiesel?

On January 15, my right foot began to swell. Probably from the cold. I felt horrible pain. I could not walk a few steps. I went to the hospital. The doctor examined the swollen foot and said: It must be operated. If you will wait longer, he said, your toes will have to be cut off and then the whole...

Re: Ten tricky questions for "Elie Wiesel believers"

Further considerations: We know that Elie Wiesel's father was not 50 when he was allegedly deported to Auschwitz, which is the age given in the story. So the father's age doesn't fit either, just as the son's age doesn't fit. Shlomo Wiesel was born somewhere between 1900 and 1903. His mother was bor...
