I'm not sure whether there is an agreement or not, but I've heard people on this Forum and elsewhere, say that for a beginner that hasn't read any Holocaust Revisionist books, Peter Winter's "The Six Million: Fact or Fiction" is one of the best, and I concur.
It is available as a free download here:
Or you can purchase the book from Peter Winter's website:

Some of my other favorites are:
Dissecting the Holocaust:

Hoax of the Twentieth Century, by Arthur Butz:

The Giant with Feet of Clay, by Jurgen Graf:

I've been on this journey for over 15 years and still learn something everyday.
Yes Dalton's book is a real eye opener and one I refer to often and no doubt the Winter book is just as valuable, but so is the resource here on the Forum. My advice to any newbie is do the hard miles of reading and research. Pick a number between the first and last page here and start delving. read a topic right through and you'd be surprised at what you learn.

However I think before specialising in any field such as Auschwitz- I think the following order is key to read in succession..
The First Holocaust
Jewish Emigration from the Third Reich
The Dissolution of Eastern European Jewry
The Hoax of the Twentieth Century
Leuchter Reports- Critical Edition
Air Photo Evidence
The Giant with Feet of Clay (refutes Hilberg)
Debating the Holocaust (not avail online)
Breaking the Spell (not avail online)
Lectures on the Holocaust
Dissecting the Holocaust
Inside the Gas Chambers
^These establish the "whole thing" is a lie beyond any serious doubt and provide a widely quotable base of knowledge to then launch into the more detailed studies later. The first 3 show the propagandistic and demographic absurdities and deal with the development in a historical nature.
The next 3, Hoax, Leuchter and Air Photo are kind of in historical order of discovery as it happened and provide the grounding at the same time for the next 6 which together really obliterate the lie before a detailed analysis of the other books is even conducted.
As an aside I find "Dissecting" the most easy to quote from as it is served in a matter of fact scientific style, rather than LEcture's which is great to step a beginner through dialogue format, but not so good imo when referencing for pressing hard arguments.
