Parler being Censored

Postby JLAD Prove Me Wrong » 8 months 2 weeks ago (Sun Jun 21, 2020 1:43 pm)

With the banning of mainstream figure Katie Hopkins from Twitter, normally I would be livid. But this time I am not. Here's why.

She has announced that she is going onto Parler. I never even heard of it, but apparently it is like Twitter, but without ADL censorship. We have a chance to redpill normies that will be coming onto the platform because of this censored woman. There's even an app for it. With a flood of people coming in, we have an open door before us. Let's use it. From what I can tell, many, many people are joining. Let's help it to grow!

I looked at Parler yesterday and think it has great potential though it is still very much in its infancy. I searched for holocaust and revisionism and found nothing.

Parler has gone from 1 to 1.5 million users in just 1 week
"Parler was the top-ranked iPhone app in the news category, ahead of Twitter and Reddit...
User growth surged to 1.5 million from 1 million over the course of about a week, said John Matze, Parler’s 27-year-old founder and CEO..."
https://cnbc.com/2020/06/27/parler-ceo- ... e-app.html or http://archive.is/DYDTs

Might be worthwhile to promote revisionist material, although I haven't used it myself so I can't say from experience attempting to.

As soon as 'Parler' reaches anything resembling 'critical mass', it will be devoured, if it already isn't another tool of the establishment.
However, until such a time (of being captured, responding to 'pressure' or simply winding back the boundaries of discussion after gathering data) it may be a useful platform, as others have pointed out.

I don't understand why Parler is a closed-off network, with content only viewable by registered users who register with a phone number. This seems needlessly self-limiting. Among the problems with this, it prevents material from getting indexed on search engines. Even when trying to access a profile page you have a direct link to, it redirects you the page https://parler.com/auth/access and requests a sign-in. If this is the way it is, Parler is even more closed-off than Facebook.

For whatever weaknesses this CODOH-Forum has or has had in its nearly twenty years of life, it is to be commended that it is good at saving the content put into it for years, and open access (googleable). Social media as we came to know it in the 2010s, on the other hand, is highly ephemeral and, if closed-access, seems strange.

Here is their policy -- and the only content at the main page Parler.com except for the register and log-in buttons:

Free Expression; User Privacy

Parler is an unbiased social platform focused on open dialogue and user engagement. We allow free speech and do not censor ideas, political parties or ideologies. We protect your privacy and will never sell your personal data.

Saving the content of this forum has always been and still is one of it's highest priorities.
What has been collected & saved is in essence a massive Revisionist database.
Unfortunately, as bad as censorship and assaults upon free speech have been, current events indicate that it will only get worse.

Yep, I was about to make an account a few weeks ago. Then it asked for my phone number and I just decided "nah, I'll just wait it out and see what happens with it."

The bottom of the forum's main page says:
"Total posts 85695 • Total topics 11462"

Everything (besides maybe image attachments) is stored in an SQL database, which is just text. I am quite certain that the entirety of this forum, all of the images and posts could be backed up and put in something like this:

ImageImage

It could easily fit in your pocket. All of the data could be compressed as well, I'd bet that both the CODOH main site and this forum could be downloaded, compressed, and placed on one of these, easily with plenty of extra space to spare. The entire database of the forum is probably around 1 GB, and would be even less if compressed due to how many words are repeated and how many posts, just like this one, contains word-for-word quotes of previous ones.

That portable hard drive right there is 1 TB, and there are 1,000 GB per TB. I'd estimate that all of the forum attachments are roughly half of the size of the [uncompressed] database. The phpBB forum software is freely available online, anyone can download it, it's not going anywhere. So, the entire CODOH main site, this forum, HolocaustHandbooks.com with all the book PDFs and videos (even CODOHs BitChute channel) could probably be backed up on a device that costs around $50 brand new (based on highly rated Amazon listings -- you could easily get one for $20 used on eBay or elsewhere). And if not (which would be due to the videos, really) you could just buy a second one, or a bigger one that holds more than just 1 TB.
This technology only gets cheaper with each passing year.

I wonder what the rationalization is behind requiring a personal phone number. I see real downsides.

I had the same reaction as you, and did not sign up for Parler when it was being touted widely.

There was a big hack of Twitter last week, which was so comprehensive that they disabled tweeting by all verified accounts for a period of around two hours. Dozens of major accounts sent out fake fundraising tweets to the hackers' bitcoin address; who knows how many accounts were hacked and how much data was grabbed. There is talk that all the breached accounts also had their private messages compromised. Attaching a phone number to your profile obviously carries danger in that kind of eventuality.

A lot of people are frightened to even engage with dissident material. I have known people too frightened to even log onto CODOH lest someone discover an IP address traceable to them was accessing CODOH or CODOH-Forum. I once persuaded one person to read something on CODOH-Forum on my device. In other words, at least in that case what frightened him and led to unwillingness to engage with this material was not the act of reading it, but the digital trail tracing back to him. Assuredly, there are people who are frightened of even reading it, probably most people, but that's a function of power.

Yes I didn't sign up because of the phone number request. But I also noticed that all the people on Twitter encouraging people to sign up were holocaust promoters.

I would discourage anyone to use Parler. In many ways it's worse than Twitter and it is mining your data. See this article: https://www.redwhiteandfyou.com/the-problem-with-parler-how-a-free-speech-app-turned-into-anything-but/

The most shocking is:

No. The terms of service for Parler are some of the strangest and most predatory that I’ve ever seen. If they get sued for something you post, frivolous or not YOU are the one responsible for paying their legal fees.

So if you post the truth and Germany with it's totalitarian censorship laws sues Parler, you have to pay their costs.

On Gab these conservatives would find everything they want, but that's probably a no-go for them because of its reputation.
They are afraid of words and thoughts; words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home — all the more powerful because forbidden — terrify them ... They make frantic efforts to bar our thoughts and words; they are afraid of the workings of the human mind

Google bans Parler app from Play Store for threats of violence

Postby Lamprecht » 1 month 3 weeks ago (Sat Jan 09, 2021 12:03 pm)

Parler has been banned from the Google app store. This is in response to the recent event in DC as Trump supporters rushed the US capitol. Trump's Twitter account has also been banned, and he was kicked off Facebook. He still had access to the POTUS account on Twitter, where he made some posts but they were later deleted and he was locked out of that account as well.

Trump supporters didn't 'rush' anything, they had a nice calm stroll up to the building into which they were warmly invited by the Capitol police.

The censorship is coming thick & fast
What hope has Joe Public got if a sitting US President can be so unjustifiably & ruthlessly shut out of social media in such an open & brazen manner while the legacy media applauds.

Amazon has now taken Parler off of its web hosting.

Amazon suspends Parler, threatening to take pro-Trump site offline indefinitely

Amazon suspended the pro-Trump social network Parler from its Web-hosting service this weekend, a move that threatens to darken the site indefinitely after its users glorified the recent riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Fortunately, this isn't a huge deal, as a website can always find a new host rather easily. I guess they have because the website is currently up. Getting banned from the app stores is more crushing. But if they get a Cloudflare ban that will be very serious as the alternative CDNs are expensive, especially for a site this large.
