Former Professor Sentenced To State Prison

Postby Malle » 1 decade 5 years ago (Sat Dec 18, 2004 10:58 am)

Honestly, I thought the court never had courage to send her to prison. There is still hope. And may this be a lesson for the other ones.

Former Professor Sentenced To State Prison
NBC4 Speaks With Kerri Dunn

POSTED: 6:23 am PST December 15, 2004
UPDATED: 7:04 pm PST December 15, 2004

LOS ANGELES -- A former Claremont McKenna College visiting professor, who spray-painted her car with racist and anti-Semitic slurs and then reported a hate crime on campus, was sentenced today to a year in state prison.

Pomona Superior Court Judge Charles Horan said Kerri Dunn "terrorized" minority students at the college and turned the rest of the students into suspects, adding that her actions could have sparked major racial violence.

He likened her actions to calling in a fake bomb threat, saying it had the effect of terrorizing people.

"At this point in time, all I can say is I'm really sad about what this has cost me, my family and the community of people at Claremont," Dunn told NBC4. "

Along with the state prison term, he ordered Dunn to pay restitution of nearly $20,000 to Claremont College to cover the cost of beefing up security and canceled classes, and an undetermined amount of restitution to the police department for filing a false report.

"From what I saw in the press, I think the judge accurately characterized the way things occurred on campus," Deputy District Attorney Martin Bean said outside the courtroom.

The prosecutor added that it was "an appropriate sentence based on the crimes she committed."

Defense attorney Gary Lincenberg was asked to comment on the judge's characterization of his client's actions.

"The court made a point, in the court's view, it's had a large disruptive effect on campus and had a significant effect," he said. "I don't think he was trying to call her a terrorist."

Dunn's parents traveled from New Jersey to attend the hearing. The 40-year-old defendant's father asked the judge to let him bring his daughter home and get her mental help.

The judge agreed that the defendant has psychological problems that need to be addressed. But the judge noted that Dunn, who underwent a 90-day psychological evaluation before sentencing and had faced a maximum of three years in prison, never admitted to the crime.

It was reported that the assistant prison warden had recommended to the judge that she serve more time behind bars because she refused to accept responsibility for her actions.

She received credit for 134 days in custody, leaving her with 231 more days still to serve.

In a written statement after her Aug. 18 conviction, Dunn's attorney said his client maintained her innocence and planned to appeal.

"I think pretending to be a victim is quite disgusting, but that's not what we're dealing with here," Dunn told NBC4. "This was no bizarre attempt on my part.

"I am innocent of the charges that I was charged with and ultimately convicted of."

She reported to police and school officials that her car had been spray- painted with racial slurs and the tires slashed March 9 while she was on campus preparing a lecture for an anti-hate forum. She also reported the vandalism to her insurer, according to the prosecutor.

Dunn's report of a hate crime prompted school officials to cancel classes at the five undergraduate Claremont campuses on March 10, and sparked anti- hate crime rallies that drew hundreds of students and captured national headlines.

Dunn claimed to have found her car vandalized about 8 that Tuesday night. But two prosecution witnesses testified that they saw Dunn drive her gold- colored Honda Civic into the college parking lot about 8 p.m. with the graffiti already on it.

"They saw her get out of her car, bend down next to two of the tires and they heard a hissing noise as she bent down to each tire," Bean said.

Dunn called her auto insurer the next morning to report the damage and property supposedly taken from her car, the prosecutor said. Dunn's attorney had argued that no insurance claim was ever made.

"The jurors convicted because the court did not allow them to hear this important and uncontradicted testimony," Lincenberg said after his client's conviction.

As for the false police report charge, the defense lawyer claimed earlier that a Claremont College electrician "clearly identified a man who should have been the primary suspect in the vandalism."

Dunn was charged April 26 with two felony counts of insurance fraud and the misdemeanor count of a false police report. Jurors convicted her on lesser charges of attempted insurance fraud, along with the misdemeanor count.

Court records show that Dunn was arrested three times in 1999 and 2000.

She paid $75 in fines after being arrested in Nebraska in September 1999 and charged with driving without a license and having fictitious plates on her car.

A case stemming from a Dec. 31, 1999, arrest for shoplifting was dismissed after Dunn paid court costs. She was arrested again in a shoplifting case on Sept. 29, 2000, according to the Los Angeles Times.

That's good news, but I think it's more of an attempt to lull people to sleep by making them think that justice is not one-sided after all..

I must not get the point, a person filed a false police report and committed insurance fraud. She was prosecuted and convicted, is there a conspiracy looming that I don't see?

She spray-painted swastikas and claimed it was an anti-Semitic attack.

Please don't try the 'conspiracy' angle. Sounds like a bit of 'projection' since Jews are constantly claiming conspiracies against themselves. Those that try to discredit others with the 'conspiracy' canard are the first to claim a conspiracy.

And what justice? As shown at this forum, there have been lot's of Jews caught faking 'antisemitic' attacks and phoney 'hate crimes', but do we read about them being sent to jail? Nope.

BTW, this sentenced woman, Dunn, was not a Jew by birth. So ofcourse, an example had to be made of her which can be passed off as even-handed justice.

I'm not trying any "angle" - a women was convicted of a petty crime - everyone here seems to see a conspiracy or else why is it mentioned.

Do you have any proof that her being a non-jew or not of jewish birth had a hand in her sentencing? Was the judge jewish? Are there sentencing guidelines I am not aware of?

Helloooo, Trojan. You are the one who brought up a 'conspiracy'.

Got a born Jew who staged similar 'crimes' as she did who was sentenced as she was?

I brought up conspiracy in the form of an interrogatory ... I asked a question, I did not allege a conspiracy.

On the other hand - and without naming names:

Honestly, I thought the court 9would) never had(sic) courage to send her to prison.

Country club prison?

emphasis mine

She spray-painted swastikas and claimed it was an anti-Semitic attack.

Sure sounds like everyone is shouting conspiracy without using the word.

Perhaps it's just me. Just dumbfounded and obstinate as always.

Trojan said:

Then he claims he never brought up 'conspiracy'.

Then he lists examples that he thinks are alleging a conspiracy ... which is in itself a claim of a conspiracy.

So the question remains, can he show us a born Jew who staged similar 'crimes' and was sentenced as Dunn was?

I received an email from the reporter that covers the case - Dunn will go to a CC and serve two months. Most likely in a hospital facility where her friendly jewish pyschaitrist will provide her with 'Anti-depression' and keep her high

Could you find a more biased web site? Talk about misleading statistics.

http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius_02/html/web ... .html#t233

FBI recorded 2,510 hate crimes agaist African Americans and 317 against Jews - about 8:1.

The web site you link to suggests virtualy all hate crimes are against Jews, does it bother to mention that it's uge percentage is for religuous based crimes only, not all hate crimes?

Laird Wilcox wrote in his book, Crying Wolf: Hate Crime Hoaxes in America; people commit these crimes because:
The first has to do with the personal payoff for victimization, i.e., attention, sympathy, a sense of importance, feeding persecution fantasies, and material payoffs. The second has to do with advancing a political or social agenda, as in the case of hoaxes intending to create support for regulations or legislation, or to help create a climate sympathetic to specific interest groups. The third has to do with insurance fraud, with the racial or anti-Semitic element almost an afterthought. Most hoaxes are combinations of the first two types.

Carefully done, the risk of discover of a hoax is minimal. Most hoaxes simply remain unsolved hate crimes. Those that are discovered may not result in criminal action against the hoaxers.

More on fake 'hate crimes' (most not directly related to this Forum):
http://www.texashatecrime.com/fake_hate ... tories.htm

Actually, the "hate crimes" industry is based on total fraud.

The FBI cooks the statistics. Yet even so, the "hate crimes" total is ridiculously paltry. Here is how the FBI manipulation works. If a Mexican-American commits a "hate crime" against a black, that counts as a "hate crime" perpetrated by a white on a black. If, on the other hand, an Italian-American commits a "hate crime" against a Mexican-American, then that counts as a "hate crime" committed by white on a Hispanic. In both cases, the crimes count in the white "hate crimes" ledger. If you are Jewish and commit a "hate crime" against someone from Puerto Rico, that also counts as a white "hate crime" perpetrated on a Hispanic. If, on the other hand, the Puerto Rican turns around and commits a "hate crime" against a Jew, then that counts as a white anti-Jewish "hate crime."Again, both crimes count as white "hate crimes." In other words, the FBI grossly overstates the "hate crimes" numbers perpetrated by whites.

Yet even this dishonesty cannot conceal the absurdity of all the hyperbole about "hate crimes." According to the Justice Department, in 1998 5,295,480 whites and 854,450 blacks were victims of violence. 14 percent of the white victims were attacked by black assailants. And 16.1 percent of the black victims were attacked by white assailants. This means that there were around 137, 500 cases of blacks being victimized by whites-approximately 2.2 percent of the total number of violent assaults for that year. And there were around 741,360 cases of whites being victimized by blacks-approximately 12 percent of the total. But according to the FBI, the total number of incidents that could be counted as "hate crimes" that year was 7,755. Of these, 2,901 were anti-black crimes, 792 anti-white crimes, 1081 anti-Jewish crimes, 482 anti-Hispanic crimes, and 1260 that were based on sexual orientation.

However, it turns out, that no less than 38 percent of these "hate crimes" amounted to 'feelings of intimidation.' Simple assault accounted for a further 18 percent. The grand total of murders or negligent manslaughter was 13. Intimidation is, of course, a very vague term that is easily created for the agenda of the claimant. People can be intimidated by an insult, an ugly stare, a reluctance to say "Good morning," or the expression of an opinion they disagree with, or simply claimed without ever occurring. Yet with all the larding of the statistics, it turns out that blacks still commit a disproportionate number of "hate crimes." According to the FBI, 66 percent of the offenders were white and 17 percent black.
"Hate crimes," like "hate speech" epitomize an era of meaningless symbolism and agenda driven authoritarianism.

Crime is crime, and all additions are as racist as they claim "others" to be. Not to mention that "hate crimes" work both sides, but only "whites" are believed to commit crimes out of "hate"... doh!

So, white attack on black, is "hate". Black attack on white is almost justified because of the unequal social system. Doh! again.

Glad to live in a sane country, but alas, getting the same mental disease called "political correctness".
