Most interesting was this paragraph:

The book features a fascinating introduction by Bird exploring the little-known but thoroughly documented phenomenon in which the numbers of the official Auschwitz "death toll" have plummeted from a "high" of 9,000,000 dead to a rock bottom of 73,137 (of whom 38,031 were Jews). And readers will note that of the 26 widely varying figures cited by Bird, all come from a variety of "responsible" and mainstream sources. No figure Bird cites comes from any source accused of "denying the Holocaust," whatever that means.

I wonder what mainstream sources gave those low figures.

Well it seems that the low figure was the camp death record figure, reported in the New York Times in 1991. I imagine this isn't news to most of you, then.

The source apparently is a 1991 New York Times article. We don't know precisely how this figure was derived, but it's obviously connected to the numbers recorded in the so-called Death Books, which refer only to registered deaths during the period August 1941 to the end of 1943. Unfortunately, this has not stopped certain uninformed persons from misrepresenting the information as the death toll over the camp's entire existence.

A few comments on the 4 million number:

Millions of Euro kids saw that number on the plaque on their school field trips to Auschwitz in the 60's, 70's, 80's. Later in the day they stood in the actual gas chamber where the Jews were killed. In that silence some probably heard the spiritual echo of their screams. But here on the tour they were being lied to also. This 'actual gas chamber' was a 1948 Soviet reconstruction. But the tour groups were not told that. Neither were the tour guides. Thus 13 year old German school kids left Auschwitz completely guilt ridden, trying to ponder this immense evil that once existed in their culture, and hating their parents or grandparents for that.

Stangely, Raul Hilberg, didn't use the 4 million number in his 1985 Destruction of the European Jews. (I don't know about his 1961 edition) He put the number at 1.1 million I believe. His 2003 edition dropped that number apparently. So eventhough he's respected amongst holocaust historians, they just left the sign up for many more years. Hilberg, I might add, is hardly respected in the revisionist community. He's been thoroughly debunked here on revforum, with his bogus sources such as Yankel Weirnik.

The term 'built' here could be misleading. The present-day crematorium, in which the mortuary-cum-gas chamber is situated, is the original wartime building. It was converted during 1944 into an air-raid shelter facility, which included the building of partition walls within the mortuary space. The Poles later converted ('reconstructed') the building back into something like its former state.

In 1948, during the museum's creation, crematorium I was reconstituted in its supposed original state. Everything in it is false: the gas chamber's dimensions, the location of the doors, the openings for the pouring in of the Zyklon B, the ovens, rebuilt according to what some survivors remembered, the height of the chimney. In the late 1970's, Robert Faurisson exploited these falsifications all the better as the museum administration balked at acknowledging them.

How can you say that, when they misrepresented the death toll at Auschwitz for fourty-five years by 2,900.000?

And even then, it's still way too high.

The term 'built' here could be misleading

Not in regard to the laughable chimney-stack that resides outside, but does not even connect in any way to the rest of the structure. It represents the very essence of the term 'built'.

The main shell is the original building, but what you see now is a highly tampered with piece of garbage, that has been completely defiled by communists and Zionist's.

From what I have seen on the David Cole video, I will have to disagree and suggest the internal partition walls were slung up as part of the initial build, using their own foundation. After the war the Commu/Zionists have smacked them out, so as to turn the once many rooms into a single laughable gas-chamber room.

Tell me Hebden. In this interview with Piper at Auschwitz I. Cole asks Piper 'how they knew where to knock holes back in the roof that the Germans are said to have plugged?'. Piper answers 'That the obvious marks from the plugs were clearly visible in the roof slab and that is how they knew'.

How does that fit in with Pelty's thesis that plugging concrete is an invisible method? I mean, why should a plug in the roof-slab at Auschwitz I be visible, yet the Birkenau plugs are not? Just what was that special formula and composite they used at Birkenau?

Can you tell me who is lying, Pelty or Piper?



Hebden said 'reconstructed'

And this is what worries me. It is so reminiscent of Van-Pelt who calls a vertically rising square cross-section a 'column' when a column is round. Van-Pelt is no architect; he does not even know the basic terminology for the classical orders.

Reconstruction

The term reconstruction differs from restoration by the use of different material other than the existing fabric. It can sometimes be justified, but only if there is sufficient evidence to show that such reconstruction is not based on guesswork.


Restoration

The process of restoration is a highly specialised operation. It’s aim is to preserve and reveal the aesthetic and historic value of the monument and is based on respect for original material and authentic documents. It must stop at the point where conjecture begins and in this case moreover any extra work which is indispensable must be distinct from the architectural composition and must bear a contemporary stamp. The restoration in any case must be preceded and followed by an archaeological and historical study of the monument.


Preservation

Preservation allows what exists to be preserved for future generations without addition to or subtraction from the fabric. No intervention of any kind may be appropriate in some circumstances or only limited critical interventions which are necessary to prevent further deterioration.

So that's great that all the so-called holocaust scholars knew that the figure wasn't 4 million. Such as Hilberg in his 1985 book. But isn't it strange that the major US media never caught on to that?

Time Magazine Oct 2, 1989, pg. 25 article on Auschwitz:

......the Holocaust; 4 million people died there, an estimated 2.5 million of them Jews.

I guess their fact checker missed that one.
