It's a little late, not sure what to make of this one --

Order To Open Holocaust Archive Fought
The collection is heavy on personal detail, making it a delicate issue

By ROGER COHEN
New York Times

Tempers are flaring over a U.S. demand to open to scholars and researchers a huge repository of information about the Holocaust contained in the files of the International Tracing Service at Bad Arolsen, Germany.

Based in part on documents gathered by Allied forces as they liberated Nazi concentration camps, the stock of files stretches for about 15.5 miles, and holds information on 17.5 million people, one of the largest closed archives anywhere.

The collection is unique in its intimate personal detailing of a catastrophe, which is what makes the question of open access so delicate. The papers may reveal who was treated for lice at which camp, what ghoulish medical experiment was conducted on which prisoner and why, who was accused by the Nazis of murder or incest or pedophilia, which Jews collaborated and how they were induced to do so.

Running into objections

Since the end of the war, the Tracing Service, operating as an arm of the International Committee of the Red Cross, has used the files to help people trace the fates of relatives who disappeared into the murderous vortex of Nazi terror. Now, more than 60 years after the end of the war, the United States says that task is largely done and it is time to open up the archive, copy it so that it can also be stored in other countries and make it available to historians.

"The U.S. government favors opening up all records on the Holocaust," said Edward O'Donnell, the special envoy for Holocaust issues at the State Department. "Our objective is to open the archive, and we will continue to push."

But that push has met a wall of legal and procedural objections — from Charles Biedermann, the Red Cross official who has been director of the Tracing Service for two decades, and from the German and Italian governments. The atmosphere within the 11-nation international commission that oversees the operation has become poisonous.

'A form of Holocaust denial'

At meetings to discuss the opening of the archive, German officials have asked whether it is really in anyone's interest to have accusations about particular Jews being murderers or homosexuals made public. Because German privacy laws are much stricter than those in the United States, German authorities are concerned that an opening could lead to lawsuits charging that personal information was handed out illegally.

Wide access to the papers could also provoke new claims for compensation.

"This is a scandal and a big scar on the image of Germany," said Sara Bloomfield, the director of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, which is eager to secure copies of the files.

Paul Shapiro, the director of advanced Holocaust studies at the museum, accused Germany of "abusing efforts to achieve consensus" and "exerting a stranglehold on the process." He added, "Hiding this record is a form of Holocaust denial."

Such strong words are at odds with the generally positive tenor of German-American relations on Holocaust matters, even through negotiations as elaborate as those that led to Germany's agreement in 2000 to compensate former slave laborers of the Nazis.

Germany is outraged at the suggestion that it may be dragging its feet. "I object to the assertion that we have something to hide or are not forthcoming," said Wolfgang Ischinger, the German ambassador to the United States. "That insinuation is false."

If those archives are finally opened up, will other than "specially approved" "historians" have access to them?

I somehow doubt it.

Also, the accusation that not opening the archives constitutes a form of "Holocaust denial" is really ridiculous... and highly ironic if you think about who the real deniers are and what is being denied.

But if the archives are opened, at least it's a first step.

It is difficult to make sense of this article. Of course I'm all for having everything put on the table but given the source and the affiliation of the people quoted I have a sneaking suspicion there is a story behind this story, damage control thru the use of controlled opposition possibly?

The article is just another example of the New York Times "news" coverage protecting the Holocaust Industry. Not a single word about revisionists being denied access to the Arolsen records under the rules devised by the "allied" powers. Of course it is in the interest of revisionists that those records be open to public inspection, not just to "approved" researchers as at present. All Mr. Cohen had to do was to contact a revsionist scholar like Professor Butz or Robert Fuarisson and they would have explained it all to him but GOD FORBID that he would do that! It would probably cost him his job at the Times. So we get this silly report which paints the US administration as favoring public disclosure but at the same time giving comfort to the cover up crowd. It's not going to happen, not for a long, long time. The German agents will take care of it.

I think Hal Turner has summed it up correctly:
The truth is out there!
U.S. WANTS HOLOCAUST RECORDS RELEASED; WILL PROVE FACTUALLY THAT ONLY 74,000 PEOPLE DIED IN WORLD WAR 2 CONCENTRATION CAMPS!!

Records from International Red Cross housed in Germany, but German government says records should be kept secret.

Of course they want the records kept secret; those official records prove the "holocaust" is a huge lie. If those records come out, it will prove that only 74,000 people died in those camps during WW2, and they died from disease and starvation. . . . . nothing else.

When the German People find out they've been forced into collective guilt for 60 years over a LIE, they will oust the German government.

While the German government worries about being ousted, jews are FAR more concerned. These records will expose jews as having intentionally lied for decades. The records will prove that people in those camps were reunited with their families but that many of those families deliberately defrauded people for years; claiming benefits for a "holocaust" which did not happen.
There was no holocaust.

Tit 1:14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

Except he doesn't have the numbers correct.

The actual death toll for Auschwitz only was 150 000 - 170 000, Majdanek 40-50 000, Mauthausen 80 000, Stutthof 20 000 &c &c - in total around 5-600 000.

From Revisionist par excellence, Friedrich Paul Berg:
One major reason for denying access to the Arolsen files is, of course, that those files give no support to any claims about Nazi gassings or any kind of deliberate extermination policy. If they could have lent any support with those files, we would have seen the evidence already since the people in charge are among the most rabid anti-Nazis one can find anywhere.

How pleasantly ironic that Germany's policies regarding this vast reservoir of records is now creating such a dilemma. We were all supposed to believe that the fiendish Nazis had supposedly destroyed all the records in order to suppress the truth about their crimes. Obviously, they had done nothing of the sort. Another holocaust lie has just been exposed. It is the hoaxers themselves who are suppressing evidence and are in denial--not the revisionists.

This is a major story for the reasons so ably illustrated by others on this board but I predict that it will be qickly smothered for those very reasons.

During the war the Red Cross and the Vatican were probably the two most credible sources of information about what was going on "behind the lines". The records at Bad Arolsen are invaluable and this has been known from the beginning and this is why their access has been denied to public research. Draw your own conclusion about why this is so. Can you imagine that it would have been effectivley sealed to revisionists if the records confirmed the existence of gas chambers or a Jewish extermination plan? The Red Cross visited many camps and had a lot of information. After the war they were intimidated into silence but the records remain.

The Vatican records also have never been fully revealed although they were summarized in an 11 volume Vatican study which contained no confirmation of the main claims of the Holocaust promoters regarding the gas chambers. In the case of the Vatican it is the absence of evidence that is critical. The Vatican today shows no desire to confront the Holocaust lobby on the subject however.

Ingrid Zundel shares her .02 concerning this suspicious news report --

Zundel Gram: Mon, 20 Feb 2006

Good Morning from the Zundelsite:

THIS IS A MOST SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENT!

If ever you needed a sample of media disinformation, the New York article below is blatant, in-your-face chutzpah disinformation!

I am sure that some of our more scholarly oriented revisionists will have a thing or two to say about this piece of "news" - I will merely give you a taste for what this is really all about from what I gathered in conversation with Ernst.

When I first met Ernst and started to learn about the vast deception called the "Holocaust", I asked him: "If you had only one wish to be fulfilled to clean up this mess, what would that be?" and his reply was: "To have the records of Arolsen be open to the public. We could settle this matter once and for all. With computer data bases, it could be done in a few weeks!"

As I heard later it from others, it is Revisionists who want the Arolsen documents be made available. It is the Holocaust Lobby that has blocked access since 1979 - the year the Holocaust-debunking Institute for Historical Review was founded!

Why are they clamouring NOW to have them be opened? So they can get their hands on the vital statistics of what really did and did not happen - and maybe start a little accidental fire?

My guess is that either Ernst or Germar Rudolf pushed to have those archives be opened!

By the way, Biedermann testified in Ernst's 1988 Holocaust Trial in Toronto, an excerpt of which is on the Zundelsite, http://www.zundelsite.org/english/dsmrd ... rmann.html

Read what that lying rag, the New York Times, has to say:

* [See original NYT article posted at the top of this thread, below is a quote sourced from the Zundelsite link above -- FZN]

Biedermann confirmed that as of December 31, 1983, the total number of deaths registered with the Special Registry Office and various other registry offices was 373,468. (11-2515) This figure represented death certificates issued pursuant to received applications and was based, with respect to the Special Registry Office, on camp records kept by the Nazis during the war. (11-2516, 2517)

If i may raise a question, why were the records never destroyed if they feel they are such a threat...?

At the risk of sounding as a conspiracy nut; what have the administrators of the Arolsen archives been doing with all these files, during all these years? Surely they have had all the time in the world to manipulate and plant bogus documents supporting their nonsensical 'gas chamber' / 'extermination' stories.

The records were probably not destroyed because then people would ask, "Well, hello, why did you destroy the records?", typically this would cause them even more headach if they would have destroyed these records, so they are content with just denying people access to the records while doing...research...there.

Here's some (not very surprising) news on this issue:

http://hnn.us/roundup/entries/23288.html

Breaking News

ICRC, Germany denying access to Holocaust archive
Source: The Washington Post (3-26-06)

SIXTY-ONE YEARS ago this spring, the Allies liberated the German concentration camps. Sixty-one years is a long time -- so long that few European leaders have personal experience of the war. Why, then, are the German government and the International Red Cross still conspiring to prevent historians from gaining access to the world's largest Holocaust survivors' archive?

(...)

Both the Germans and the ICRC also claim that any change in the archives' regime requires unanimous approval of all the treaty signatories -- which is not clearly the case and is, of course, impossible, because the Germans object. Yet these are not, and were never intended to be, Germany's archives to control. Clearly it is time to raise this issue's significance, to involve diplomats at a higher level, and to reach a compromise. If possible, the archives should be made completely accessible, with no unusual restrictions, in Bad Arolsen. If legal issues make it impossible to open the archive in Germany, then yes, the documents should be copied and placed in appropriate archives abroad, where they could be managed under the rules of other countries. Sixty-one years later, survivors, historians and the rest of the world have a right to know what happened.

Well I think we can all guess the reason why the Arolsen archives has not been made accessible...

Sorry to stray; but I personally doubt it was that high.

The above Auschwitz numbers are a reading of incomplete records which do record 74,000 deaths, no gassings.

The other numbers are not supported by physical evidence or documents.
