The reason I find it interesting is the Jews prefer to use the term Shoah instead which comes from the Bible. Some people say that the entire concept of the Holocaust and the 6 million figure has it's root from the Bible suggesting the Jews were trying to fabricate history to conform to this biblical myth.
Forgive me if this has been discussed and if it has then any links would be appreciated. Here is a quick definition of the word:
"Holocaust" was adopted as a translation of "Shoah" — a Hebrew word connoting catastrophe, calamity, disaster and destruction — which was used in 1940 in Jerusalem in a booklet called Sho'at Yehudei Polin, and translated as The Holocaust of the Jews of Poland.

1940 seems pretty early to be using the term Holocaust?
It's also believed that the "Holocaust" as in the burnt offering was meant for Moloch which was a demon.
I really find this religious angle of the Holocaust to be very revealing. It seeks to explain why there is such an insistence of the Holocaust as in a "burnt offering" via gas chambers and cremations. I have also been told that Jews were burned alive in ovens. The 6 million figure also apparently has its origin from the Talmud.
I found of the articles regarding the prophecy of 6 million:
