"No Tolerance for Intolerance" and Herbert Marcuse

The expression: "no tolerance for intolerance" is universally known and often used in Germany to rationalize the relentless suppression of holocaust revisionism in spite of several clauses in the German Basic Law which guarantee free speech. That the UN Human Rights Convention Article 19 which Germany signed also guarantees the rights of revisionists does not make the slightest difference in Germany. Well, "holocaust revisionism" is routinely equated in Germany, and elsewhere, with "intolerance"--and then, all further questions are settled, supposedly. How did such an insane situation arise?

An important German-jewish philosopher and left-wing agitator who was enormously influential in the 1968 upheaval in Germany was Herbert Marcuse. His thoughts about freedom of speech may have played a key role in establishing the repression which persists in Germany. The following is from the Wikepedia article about Marcuse:

Marcuse's 1965 essay "Repressive Tolerance", in which he claimed capitalist democracies can have totalitarian aspects, has been criticized by conservatives. [2] Marcuse argues that genuine tolerance does not tolerate support for repression, since doing so ensures that marginalized voices will remain unheard. He characterizes tolerance of repressive speech as "inauthentic." Instead, he advocates a discriminatory form of tolerance that does not allow so-called "repressive" intolerance to be voiced.

That Marcuse and several other jewish members of the Frankfurt School were also with the OSS and CIA during and after WW2 are, I think, important facts for understanding how the holocaust hoax became firmly established in the immediate postwar era. Another character was Joseph B. Maier who supposedly was present when Rudolf Hoess signed his infamous "confession" to the murder of 2-1/2 million Jews in Auschwitz. Years later, Herbert Marcuse asked rhetorically as to why anyone would NOT have wanted to torture Rudolf Hoess.

Well, if you torture a person, their subsequent "confession" becomes worthless in any real court of law--something the Bush-Cheney gang of criminals should think about regarding the torture of their prisoners in Guantanomo and any subsequent trials of those prisoners. Torture may force useful military information out of prisoners--but any subsequent trials of those prisoners become a farce. Any statements that prisoners make or made as a result of torture become worthless for any real historians also.

I think it is important that we put names and faces on those who were directly involved with concocting the holocaust hoax and how it proceeded, step by step. The maker of 1/3oftheholocaust video series deserves enormous credit for what he has done in this regard but, much more needs to be done. The tasks are too huge for just a handful of people working alone in fearful isolation. Important pieces of the puzzle seem to be emerging now, especially with the internet and the powerful search engines that are available to us and this discussion forum helps the exchange of info. However, it would be so helpful if we still had a revisionist institute that brought researchers together from time to time.

Regarding that self-incriminating statement by Rudolf Hoess, one should see the actual document on the homepage of my website. It is obvious that Hoess did NOT write the actual words in English which incriminated him--he merely signed the bottom of the page on which those words appeared. Hoess's signature and his words describing his rank and position as commandant of Auschwitz are clearly written in an entirely different handwriting style from the incriminating words and are in German. The English words were written by someone else--perhaps by Maier, but not by Hoess. It is all badly manufactured evidence but good enough to fool the masses and historians who were, and still are, more than willing to let themselves be fooled and believe the worst about the Germans and Nazis.

I think the key sentences from Herbert Marcuse's essay "Repressive Tolerance" are the last ones:

For this struggle, I proposed the practice of discriminating tolerance. To be sure, this practice already presupposes the radical goal which it seeks to achieve. I committed this petitio principii in order to combat the pernicious ideology that tolerance is already institutionalized in this society. The tolerance which is the life element, the token of a free society, will never be the gift of the powers that be; it can, under the prevailing conditions of tyranny by the majority, only be won in the sustained effort of radical minorities, willing to break this tyranny and to work for the emergence of a free and sovereign majority - minorities intolerant, militantly intolerant and disobedient to the rules of behavior which tolerate destruction and suppression.

Such gobbledegook as the above is a formula for endless internal social revolution and chaos--and ultimately, disaster. That a chaotic society such as 1933 Germany resisted such madness should surprise no one. For a prosperous society such as modern postwar Germany, the use of such gobbledegook as a guiding principal is inexcusable. No doubt, the bigots who rule Germany today equate "holocaust denial" with "destruction and suppression, and tyranny."

Interesting post because holocaust denial has been associated in the mainstream with repression, racism, hate, etc. and thus if Herbert Marcuse had a logic of why repressive speech should be repressed, maybe he had the holocaust myth in mind. And if he was in the OSS, who knows, maybe he helped put forth the myth.

A philosopher who secretly had been in the OSS, is like a philosopher railing about Iran who had secretly been in the CIA.

Does Herbert Marcuse have any post-war connections to CIA fronts? Like Encounters magazine, or Congress for Cultural Freedom? There was also that Berlin magazine that was a CIA anti-communist front. I wonder if Herbert Marcuse ever was involved with those.

essay is this paragraph:

Liberating tolerance, then, would mean intolerance against movements from the Right and toleration of movements from the Left. As to the scope of this tolerance and intolerance: ... it would extend to the stage of action as well as of discussion and propaganda, of deed as well as of word. The traditional criterion of clear and present danger seems no longer adequate to a stage where the whole society is in the situation of the theater audience when somebody cries: 'fire'. It is a situation in which the total catastrophe could be triggered off any moment, not only by a technical error, but also by a rational miscalculation of risks, or by a rash speech of one of the leaders. In past and different circumstances, the speeches of the Fascist and Nazi leaders were the immediate prologue to the massacre. The distance between the propaganda and the action, between the organization and its release on the people had become too short. But the spreading of the word could have been stopped before it was too late: if democratic tolerance had been withdrawn when the future leaders started their campaign, mankind would have had a chance of avoiding Auschwitz and a World War.

During World War II Marcuse first worked for the U.S. Office of War Information (OWI) on anti-Nazi propaganda projects. In 1943 he transferred to the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the precursor to the Central Intelligence Agency. His work for the OSS involved research on Nazi Germany and denazification. After the dissolution of the OSS in 1945, Marcuse was employed by the US Department of State as head of the Central European section, retiring after the death of his first wife in 1951.

It's interesting because this thread gives an example of the theory put forth by Kevin MacDonald in his book Culture of Critique: That academic philosophical theories, sometimes have an underlying motive of Jewish Group Evolutionary Strategy. What makes this example particularly interesting is that the holocaust myth is involved.

Herbert Marcuse puts forth an abstruse philosophical basis on why certain speech shouldn't be allowed. And we think of holocaust denial speech not being allowed in Europe, and how the myth quite often benefits the Jews such as in their acquiring of Israel.

The truth is way easier to understand than group strategy disguised as philosophy.

Apparently there were several versions of Hoess's "Confession."

A version with Joseph Maier's signature as a witness--and dated May 14, 1946--can be seen at:

The version I show on my website from the hardbound version of the book AUSCHWITZ by Dr. Miklos Nyiszli is dated March of 1946, the exact day is unclear, but without anyone actually signing the document as a witness. In the later version--two months later--the incriminating text (in German) may have been written by Hoess whereas the earlier version's incriminating text (in English) was definitely NOT written by Hoess.
