Hoess was in the hands of these people, some of the most brutal torturers in recent history. Furthermore, more than half of the senior staff were Jews. Are you seriously suggesting we should take at face value claims in a book, allegedly by him and published 11 years after his death, that he was not tortured?
Wasn't the Hoess book written with an erasable pencil, too?
Concerning Communist secret police forces I don't think there is any doubt that their reputation for torture was quite justified
Add to that that the Poles/Jews were murdering Germans in Eastern Germany at that stage en masse as well. This just gives some indication about the public climate present at the time does also suggest the kind of behavior one may expect from members of the secret police in Poland.
Interestingly about one third of the secret Police personnel of the secret police was actually Jewish.
