Hitler's Economic Miracle--the Greatest ever!

Postby Friedrich Paul Berg » 3 years 9 months ago (Wed Jan 29, 2014 1:08 pm)

For someone who Ian Kershaw believes was "wholly ignorant" of economics, Hitler's performance with the German economy was all the more stunning.

Image

See: “Nazism and the German Economic Miracle” by Henry C. K. Liu.http://atimes.com/atimes/Global_Economy/GE24Dj01.html

The greatest economic miracle of all time was achieved by Hitler from 1933 to 1938 during a world depression and in spite of the worldwide anti-German boycott by Jews. See the unemployment graph above. If America ever intends to seriously deal with its own economic disaster today, it must first learn from Adolf Hitler.

The chart above appears in Burton Folsom's excellent new book: New Deal or Raw Deal? on page 243. One can see that in 1932, the year before Hitler and Roosevelt both came to power, Germany's unemployment rate was 30.1% and America's was 24.9%. But within just five years, Germany's unemployment rate was reduced to only 4.6% (1937) and dropped even further to only 2.1% a year later. By contrast, FDR in 1937 still had 13.2% unemployment which actually rose to 19.8% a year later. Hitler was the clear, unmatched winner in terms of economic management. No doubt, the fiendish Nazis must have been in league with the devil himself to pull off this economic miracle which is unmatched in all of human history. Hitler's achievement becomes all the more stunning when one realizes that America was, and still is, a vast country with vast resources whereas Germany was a small country with coal as its only resource. Germany had been defeated in a terrible war which America won and to whom almost the entire world was deeply in debt financially. Germany was also the target of a worldwide Jewish economic boycott and had no gold reserves whereas America had an abundance of everything—except leadership. The name of Germany's leadership was: ADOLF HITLER!

Hitler also achieved a social miracle almost overnight by ending the bitter class divisions within Germany and lifting German workers to the highest levels anywhere in the world—and all of that without the bloody revolution that communists insisted would be needed. It was small wonder that the German people admired Hitler and pledged their eternal loyalty to him. Postwar American psychiatrists and social planners for Germany (many of them Jewish like Erich Fromm, of course) were, and still are, totally incapable of understanding any of that. Other “scholars” like Raul Hilberg or Harvard's Daniel J. Goldhagen insisted that there was something seriously wrong with the Germans generally going back centuries. How else could the Germans have possibly followed Hitler as they did? They must have been driven by some deep-rooted flaws within their very beings. Supposedly, they wanted and even needed someone to follow “blindly.” Therefore, the Germans had to be “reeducated” and “cured” somehow—and occupied and monitored indefinitely just as they still are today (see linked video auf Deutsch). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGD2q2vewzQ&feature
In his highly influential Origins of the Second World War (1961), British historian A.J.P. Taylor gave the Nazis credit for creating widespread prosperity, concluding on pages 104-05; “The Nazi secret was not armament production; it was freedom from the then orthodox principles of economics. Government spending provided all the happy effects of mild inflation; while political dictatorship, with its destruction of trade unions and rigorous exchange control, prevented such unfortunate consequences as a rise in wages, or in prices.” Hjalmar Schacht, who was temporarily head of the German central bank and a defendant in the Nuremberg Trial, summed it up thus… An American banker had commented, “Dr. Schacht, you should come to America. We’ve lots of money and that’s real banking.” Schacht replied, “You should come to Berlin. We don’t have money. That’s real banking.” Hitler's miracle was comparable to Jesus “feeding the multitudes” next to the Sea of Galilee except that Hitler's performance was far more spectacular— and it was real. Hitler did NOT just feed a multitude of 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fishes--he fed tens of millions with nothing at all. That was a real miracle!

Can America ever admit that it might learn something, anything at all, from Hitler-–that supposed “madman”–-or the Nazis in order to solve the mess it is in today? Of course, not! The “holocaust” will blind America to real solutions and so, indirectly, it will pay an astronomical price for the holocaust mytho-mania which it has embraced and promotes as a nation. In the meantime, the Jewish wizards of Wall Street and high finance will continue to eviscerate America; they are becoming fabulously wealthy as the rest of the country becomes poor--the gap is widening, and everyone knows it. America needs a Hitler. What America has now is nothing.

If I remember what Richard Overy (in his book Dictators) wrote, it was not Hitler but Hjalmar Schacht who was the driving force behind the German economic recovery. Schacht was not even a National Socialist, but a conservative.

As mentioned here, http://reason.com/archives/1999/08/01/nazi-economics (first link desribes Kershaw's writings) http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/na ... conomy.htm what the statistics on unemployment do not show is all the people who were removed from the job market altogether.

According to various figures, half a million women were removed (up to 1937) by the marriage allowance and Jews and various communists were ofcourse taken off the market either by imprisonment or removal of citizenship. 1.2 million more were in the army by 1939. Many others had been absorbed into unpayed Reicharbeitsdeinst work, NS bureaucracy or work in factories for the rearmament programme.

Evans also wrote:

"The regime was indeed far from averse to cooking the books. Not only men drafted into labour service but also previously unregistered family and other effectively unpaid farm helpers, most of whom were women, were not counted as employed. None of these people could be considered as active participants in the labour market; none of them received a regular wage with which they could support themselves, let alone support a family. On this reckoning there were at least one and a half million 'invisible unemployed' in Germany at this time, and the total number of unemployed, which Nazi statisticians put at just over two million, was in fact much nearer four. As late as January 1935, a contemporary observer reckoned that there were still over four million unemployed people in Germany. There were subtler methods of statistical manipulation too. Occasional workers were now counted as permanently employed...".

Wages stagnated while consumer prices went up. German living standards were lower than the US, thats for certain (see especially Tooze, chapter "Volksgemeinschaft on a budget"). The German "economic miracle" is not everything some writers, such as Taylor, have made it out to be - don't get me wrong, it was a major feat no doubt but it is somewhat overstated. An "economic miracle" that did not raise living standards, reduced exports, covered up real unemployment statistics and was pushed ahead by rearmament and deficit spending is barely a "miracle" at all.

Germany was also the target of a worldwide Jewish economic boycott

And Jews were, what, 15 million people? Even if this Jewish boycott was effective all over the world for all these years (I have seen no evidence of that), it could barely have made a difference.

Mkk:
Indeed Schacht was the man, as Berg shows, please read the OP.
You cite unreferenced claims in an asian newspaper, lovely.
You cite Kershaw, a known liar about the Germans.
Hitler was not in charge of the economy, Schacht was, yet Kershaw claims Hitler was 'economically ignorant' as if Hitler were in charge.
Mkk agrees Schacht was in charge thereby shooting himself in the foot and refuting Kershaw who ignores Schacht.

What's it going to be, Mkk?

You conveniently ignore:
A.J.P. Taylor gave the Nazis credit for creating widespread prosperity, concluding on pages 104-05; “The Nazi secret was not armament production; it was freedom from the then orthodox principles of economics. Government spending provided all the happy effects of mild inflation; while political dictatorship, with its destruction of trade unions and rigorous exchange control, prevented such unfortunate consequences as a rise in wages, or in prices.”

You say:
And Jews were, what, 15 million people? Even if this Jewish boycott was effective all over the world for all these years (I have seen no evidence of that), it could barely have made a difference.
OH, please. And just who is it that controlled (controls) the corrupt banking system which Germany got out of?

This is beautiful:
An American banker had commented, “Dr. Schacht, you should come to America. We’ve lots of money and that’s real banking.” Schacht replied, “You should come to Berlin. We don’t have money. That’s real banking.”

So Germany was going to make all of Europe & Asia part of Germany? Don't make me laugh. Look at a map of the world at that time. What firmly established empires ruled the world? Answer: British, French, US, Russian.
And you're off topic.

And why would a Pan-Germanist regime have wanted non-German populations ("all of Europe") and even non-White populations ("all of Asia") inside the borders of their own state in the first place? Such a thing would have destroyed their blood and culture...

This study claims that German living standards from 1933-1937 at least fell due to an autarchy policy . http://www.econstor.eu/bitstream/10419/ ... _wp800.pdf

The anti-Hitler defamation propagandists can't even keep their allegations credible. They could have claimed that the German living standards hadn't improved as much as claimed by some people. But even admitting Hitler improved something is too much for them. So they try to make people believe that the living standards of a country where currency notes were used as heating fuel because they had more value as paper than they had as money, fell after the Nazis were elected. And, according to that theory, the Germans were supposedly too stupid to see that their own living standards were falling. So they supported the Nazi regime as they had never supported any regime before. Ridiculous.

In fact, the German living standards were so low from 1929 to 1932 that had any regime failed to improve them quickly, that regime wouldn't have lasted for an entire year.

If that theory was true, even David Lloyd George, who was far from being an idiot or a gullible child and could "feel the pulse" of the German population after around 4 years of Nazi administration, was duped by the Nazi economic miracle and felt nothing of those allegedly falling living standards.

"I have just returned from a visit to Germany. [...] I have now seen the famous German Leader and also something of the great change he has effected. Whatever one may think of his methods - and they are certainly not those of a parliamentary country - there can be no doubt that he has achieved a marvellous transformation in the spirit of the people, in their attitude towards each other, and in their social and economic outlook. He rightly claimed at Nuremberg that in four years his movement has made a new Germany. It is not the Germany of the first decade that followed the war - broken, dejected, and bowed down with a sense of apprehension and importance. It is now full of hope and confidence, and of a renewed sense of determination to lead its own life without interference from any influence outside its own frontiers. There is for the first time since the war a general sense of security. The people are more cheerful. There is a greater sense of general gaiety of spirit throughout the land. It is a happier Germany. I saw it everywhere and Englishmen I met during my trip and who knew Germany well were very impressed with the change. One man has accomplished this miracle. He is a born leader of men. A magnetic, dynamic personality with a single-minded purpose, a resolute will and a dauntless heart. [...] As to his popularity, especially among the youth of Germany, there can be no manner of doubt. The old trust him; the young idolise him. It is not the admiration accorded to a popular Leader. It is the worship of a national hero who has saved his country from utter despondency and degradation. " - David Lloyd George (British Prime Minister during WW1), “I TALKED TO HITLER”, London Daily Express, November 17, 1936.

propagandaskeptics cited 'research' is laughable. It doesn't pass the smell test.

About main author Joerg Baten:

- He is affiliated with the EDIRC which is a RePEc service hosted by the Research Division of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Hardly a reliable affiliation. Credibility problem from the start.
- Baten's use of autarchy as a negative towards NS Germany, but has no problem with the autarchy of the EU or the US Federal Reserve Bank. Again, credibility problem.
- Baten cites many biased post war 'studies', where the norm is to paint Germany of the period in the most negative manner.
- We see many citations such as: "sources calculated from" .... IOW, "calculated" through the lens of bias and political correctness.
- Baten cites studies from the between the wars, pre-Third Reich era, corrupt Weimar period when Germany was in utter chaos and pretends they are accurate.
- Baten simply brushes off the fact that the utter destitution due to the savagery of the Versailles Treaty and the corrupt Weimar period would necessarily result in levels of poor nutrition and later health issues as a result.
- Note that Baten ignores the tremendous efforts Germany made in developing strategies for combating cancer, it's emphasis on fitness & nutrition.
Baten states:
The currency used to buy Swedish iron could have just as easily bought Danish cattle.
But only if one ignores the growing threat towards Germany via communist USSR, Poland, UK, France, the US. Hence the need for rearming.
Baten utterly ignores the actual observed situation about Third Reich Germany. Be it the Germans themselves or outside observers, Germany made tremendous economic and health strides during the period.

Baten is nothing more than another politically correct conjurer with no credibility whatsoever. His affiliations indicate a bias from the very beginning, he writes what he's expected to write. His work simply does not stand up to scrutiny.

The tide is turning.

I agree that it is implausible that the German people would support a regime that was supposedly so disastrous as the study claims. I'm just playing devil's advocate here.

About main author Joerg Baten:

The main thesis of the authors, namely that because the autarchy programm germans health deteriorated is contradicted by an statament buried in footnote 5

German death rates increased between 1932 and 1937, whereas those of the Netherlands and Denmark both fell slightly
during that period (Table 1). It should be mentioned, though, that there was no significant reduction in crude death rates in
England and Wales either, contrary to the general European improvement in the 1930s.
It seems as if both major food-
importing economies experienced problems in that period of market desintegration, but the present study shows that the
German case was much more severe than the British one.

The study is full of biased comparisons with other countries, taking this info, ignoring the other and so on. For example, on Table 1 there are 3 countries in comparison with Germany: England&Wales, Netherlands and Denmark. France, Italy and Spain, are missing. They only take "average Europe", but ignored individual countries.

Anyway, there are many fluctuations, even year-to-year. See Denmark's crude death rate of 1934 and 1935, or England&Wales of 1937-38.

But who can believe that Germany was better in "crude death rates" in 1932 than in the so-called "golden year" of 1928? 108 to 116! I don't know if the authors even bothered to take into account the population growth.

Table 2 shows a comparison 1932/1937 (both sexes) (death rate x 1000) that it is almost identical in all groups except in 0-1 years group... it was 15 less than in 1932! And the authors claim that in 1937 there were more crude death rates x 10,000 than x 1,000? (perhaps there is a difference)

FIgure 2 shows the height of children in Stuttgart rising during the 20s (even during the depression! [except in girls of 9 years]) but declining or stagnated after...oh, 1933.

Figure 3 the same with children of Leipzig (6 years). Rising during the 20s (and the depression, of course) but stagnated/declined magically after 1933. In the post-war, they rised again (the good, democratic Germany).

In contrast, heights of other European a
nd American urban populations increased. Leeds,
Glasgow, and eight other towns in Great Britain
are just some examples (Figure 4). Other
similar evidence exist for the Netherlands, and for Pittsburgh, USA, during the Great
Depression (Drukker and Ta
ssenaar, 1997, pp. 331–377; Wu, 1992).

Wow!!!!!!!! pure scientific research: a sample of 2 cities. They don't even bother to critically study those allegations. Anything going against- evil-Germany is taken at face value.

In sum, stagnating heights of schoolchildren,
interruption or reversal of the mortality
decline, particularly of childre
n, and high morbidity rates from diphtheria, all suggest that the
biological standard of living in Germany was eith
er declining, or was at most constant during
the first years of Nazi rule.
Relative to the ac
hievements of other countries, it most certainly
deteriorated
. What could have been
the factors behind such a development?

All of this magically after 1933. Great.

Nothing but pseudo-scientific claims merged from dubious sources. Garbage.

As for the standard of living: surely the US have more (more cars, more TV, more radio, etc), but this misses the point, as already explained. What people want for Germany in 1935/36: 0 unemployment, 200% increase in wages, households of 150m2, free vacations for all workers? SInce it doesn't achieve it, it was a "disaster". Ridiculous.

Before producing biased pseudo-scientific 'studies', they used another method to fade Hitler's economic miracle: they associated it with mass murder. Another powerful motive to promote the Holohoax...

There is nothing righteous or magical or even necessary about a nation’s currency being “backed” by gold or silver. This was proved by Adolf Hitler during the 1930s. It was proved so conclusively that the Jews want to make sure that it’s never tried again. The best way to ensure this is to associate debt-free currency with mass murder!

The economic mess that the US is in today will continue indefinitely. The solution, so successful in pre-war Germany under Hitler, is linked of course to holocaust lunacy--and so Jews who totally dominate all economic activity in the US dare not admit it has any merit. After all, Hitler was "pure evil."

The fact that standards of living in pre-war Britain and the US may have still been somewhat higher (maybe not) than in pre-war Germany ignores the fact that Britain and the US had vast resources and lands at their disposal whereas Germany had next to nothing. Hitler's achievement was the greatest economic miracle of all time--from which the world will eventually learn because it has no choice, ultimately. The Chinese seem to be the fastest learners.

Adam Tooze has been reviewed before.
Any valid comparison would be either between Germany and it's neighbors or between Germany prior to 1933 and a significant number of years later.

But how Germans may have experienced may have been even more significant. And there working class people could suddenly afford to buy there own home. Could afford vacation, decent clothing and feeding for there kids, etc. This is the general experience. Virtually no German ever claimed to have become poorer under Hitler 1933-1939. The war changed that picture of course.

The "But Hitler financed everything on debt" argument is bogus as well. On what "debt" did he base it on? On fiat debt from his very own reserve bank. Do those clowns arguing that way have any idea how Western economies do finance their financial economies and how much debt they have including to their reserve banks?
